Remodeling the Home of the Whopper....

It's Saturday and crews continue to work. Today the carpenters and tile setters are here to take advantage of less traffic in the areas in which they are working. The photo shows the entrance side of the building from the roof looking down. The other is a photo of the new units on the roof. Finally, a closer view of the EIFS on trash enclosure area.
Well, it's the last day of the month. We are now down to 26 official days before turn over. Woody is positive he'll meet his goal.
Meanwhile, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our DIRECTOR Ted Young back at the Parkway Offices.

Burger King Wall & Floor Finishes Starts Today

Today the carpenters came in and started wainscoting the walls with Marlite paneling. They started in the playground area. The ceramic tile installation also started today in the kitchen. Ceiling grid was finished up in the office. HVAC mechanics put in grills in kitchen. The concrete crew came out and started forming up the drive thru lane.

Burger King Roof Top View

Not sure how this photo will turn out on the blog, but I found the construction of it interesting. Woody got up on the roof to see how things were coming along up there. He took the time to take photos of the drive thru as it's prepared for a concrete pour. So these are roof top photos of the drive thru. It took about nine pictures to put this view together.

The electricians are finally pulling new wire.

The stone crew was applying stone on the drive thru side of the building.

Burger King Sign

Today the sign on the building was put in place by the electricians. It's always interesting to see the crews do this. After this the electricians worked in the kitchen. John Kostel came by and met with the HVAC foreman regarding the stainless steel to be installed. All measurements were taken. The drywall crew continued with sheetrock and FRP installation. Woody has also made arrangements to have the tile crew arrive on Thursday to begin work. After today we are down to 30 days to meet our goal.

Overview: Home of the Whopper!

I have manipulated some pictures to produce this panoramic view of the Burger King. The photo above is the current view. The photo in the middle is after most of the framing and cover up has been completed. The photo at the bottom was taken at the beginning of the project. Today the work on drywall and FRP continued. This crew has been moving along at an aggressive pace. They are definitely performing within their schedule.

Saturday: Drywall Crew continues @ Burger King

It's not easy asking a crew to work on the weekend. But projects are on a schedule. When the turn over date arrives the owners expect the store to be ready to open. Therefore, often crews will end up working on the weekend. The drywall crew didn't have to be asked they decided to work through the weekend. Woody did talk to the stone and EIFS crews about working on Saturday. However, today it was raining, so they were unable to work. Later in the morning the rain subsided and it was a beautiful sunny day. The photo shows the walls covered in FRP inside. And the exterior work completed up to now.

MEP's Work at record setting speeds....

Well, maybe, they aren't setting records, but they continue to meet or beat the schedule. I've mentioned in previous entries that the quality of subcontractor determines the not only the quality of the project, but also the ability to understand the time is of the essence. These crews on the Burger King project taking their work seriously. The EIFS work on the main building is complete. The crew moved out to work on the trash enclosure. A separate crew is working on stone application. After installing the broiler hood, the HVAC crew worked on the broiler vent pipe. The electricians & plumbers finished their roughing in and are ready for inspection on Monday. Lastly, the drywall crew worked on the sheetrock and FRP applications. The drywall and EIFS crews are scheduled to work this weekend. HVAC crew passed their City inspection, so lines are ready to wrap. John Kostel came out again today. Woody and he were able to review all issues requiring the owners attention. It was definitely a great work week.

Exterior & Interior Work Progresses

A crew worked on the EIFS on the drive thru side of building. Then later continued with stone application on front of building. The new trunk lines were installed over the front counter. The electricians and plumbers are doing their roughing in work. Another crew stayed busy tape and bedding in the lobby.

John Kostel came by today. We met with the corian installer. This allowed us time to coordinate and confirm colors to be used. The corian will not be changed from plans. The City of Paris Inspector came by for a framing inspection. He has now permitted crews to cover the old walls with sheetrock or FRP.

These photos reflect the work being completed both inside and out.

Burger King: New look coming up

Today the exterior work continued with the start of the stone
veneer application. It was going to start yesterday, but rain was in the forecast. Today it is sprinkling off and on, but they were able to start. Clear skies are scheduled tomorrow. This work will probably be complete by the end of the week. The EIFS crew also returned to continue their work in the drive thru.

Inside the concrete crew returned to finish up the kitchen concrete work. Also working inside were the electricians as they began pulling wire.

BURGER KING: Concrete Poured

First of all, please note that the days to turn over have been reduced. Today we went from 50 days to 37 days to turn over. Paris' WHOPPER lovers will be able to zip into their Burger King sooner than expected due to job running ahead of schedule despite our rain days. We hope the weather works in our favor as we continue with exterior work.

In regards to rain, today the EIFS and Stone crews didn't work. We did have an inspection of the EIFS. The results were positive. But the crews held off coming to work, due to the rain forecasted for today. As it turns out the day was dry. The crews will be here tomorrow.

The concrete crew was here in full force. After the steel work & other preparations to pour concrete, they passed inspection with the City of Paris. After the inspection they were able to begin pouring. They used wheel barrels to bring in the concrete. By the end of the day it was left to dry & final pad work will be done tomorrow.

The HVAC techs came in to add new drops for units. We received the shipment of doors & hardware. Woody was able to meet with John Kostel to confirm upcoming working.

Valentine's Day at Burger King

Although, Whopper lovers were unable to come in and satisfy their craving for a good ole, mouth watering, flame broiled burger, the EIFS crew did work at the location in Paris, TX today. They were able to complete the color at the main entrance and the majority of the color at the drive thru area. Happy Valentine's Day!

End of Another Week @ Burger King

The pictures show it better than I can explain, the color is being put on the front portion of the building. The roofing crew worked on roof curbs and the trash enclosure roof. The electricians came to demo old electric interior lines. The demo crew took down the menu board. Inside the wall behind the front counter was prepared for new finish.

Burger King Remodel Progresses

Today the framing & demo crew did some roof coverup work & trash bin trim. The plumbers finished the underground plumbing work in the kitchen. The City of Paris sent out a Plumbing Inspector. Plumbers did pass the inspection. This allowed them to cover up. The stone veneer was delivered for the exterior of the building. The EIFS crew continued their work on the drive thru side of the building. Meanwhile, inside the windows were trimmed out. The pictures show what captured Woody's attention the most today. The roof had a section cut out today for an opening that is needed for the new HVAC curb. Woody captured these photos.

Burger King: Interior Progress

The plumbers came in today and didn't waste any time. They set out immediately to install all the new plumbing. They are now ready for an inspection.

Cliff Hudson, Project Manager, also brought done Greg & Noel to have a look at the progress. Mr John Kostel met everyone on site for an inspection of the work performed.

Burger King crews came in to continue cleaning equipment.

Other work done today includes duct work removed, hvac roof curbs removed, playground tiles removed, sheetrock install started in lobby area, and finally the EIFS work was able to continue outside.

DECONSTRUCTION of Kitchen Nears End

The photos below give a view of all that's going on. The water damaged wood has not only been uncovered, but has also been repaired. The demo work has continued in the kitchen as well as the lobby. Saw cutting & jack hammering in the kitchen has created a big pile of concrete that is continuously being hauled out. Ceiling tiles have been removed, as well as mop sinks. The clogged roof drain is no longer clogged. At the end of the day the crews cleaned up the work site.

Demo Continues Inside Despite the Rain

DEMO WORK
SAW CUTTING
Jack Hammering
Yank out sinks Remove Ceiling Tiles
Tear out the floors
Take out equipment HAUL

The first rain spell came in at 4am. It didn't last long. But about 6am it was coming down again. It was not any thing more than rain and a small breeze. But it was enough to have to call off all scheduled exterior work. The interior work, however, continued as planned. The most interesting photos of today are these below. In the top section, we see the demo crew has been assigned with the task of moving a safe that has not been moved in many, many years. (Someone thinks it could be as much as 30 years. We don't actually know how long it has been there. ) The photo indicates three men working on the project. It looks like a push and pull job. The photo beneath those is one of a "de-struction" man removing tiles and a "con-struction" plumber.

Progress of Exterior Work @ Burger King

The subcontractor doing the exterior finishing work, had a crew on site over the weekend. They were able to make visible progress. Some of the color has already been added. These photos show various stages of this work as it's in progress.

Hopefully, the rain forcasted for the coming week won't linger and allow work to continue on the exterior of the building.

Demo Work Continues

The demo of the kitchen floor, wall, and ceiling tiles continued. The EIFS work continued outside on the drive thru side. The ceiling tiles were delivered and stored. Burger King reps continued to work on the removal of the pos system. The mechanical techs removed the old a/c unit and fans. The sanitation company had to come switch out the 40 yard container again. This is the second time since the demo work started. Overall, the day went well and progress is on schedule. The EIFS work will continue over the weekend. As of now the plans are laid out for the coming week, but the forcast is still calling for rain through the middle of next week. We will have to see how it goes.

Burger King: Kitchen DEMO Started Today

Look at these photos that show the removal wall, floor, ceiling tiles. Kitchen equipment was moved outside for a thorough cleaning before being stored. Earlier I reported that the exterior would be done in stucco. However, it is clear from the photo that it will actually be EIFS. Woody really enjoyed having so many crews on site today: plumbers, mechanical technicians, electricians, and the demo and framing crew. They were also joined by Mr J Kostel who spent the day having the POS removed. The crews are working proactively knowing that the beginning of next week's rain could cause delays. We'll just have to wait and see. The work is really coming along.

Stucco Application Begins Today at Burger King

The home of the Whopper in Paris, TX is getting a new look. The project is in it's third week. Today the stucco crew started their work and made good progress. It's the only crew that needed to work today. Woody scheduled several crews for tomorrow when the interior work begins. Today is the final day that Whoppers are being served here. The restaurant will open when the remodeling is completed.

Roof & Stucco Crews at Burger King

The work is progressing at a steady rate. The crews have been very cooperative, professional, and agressive in their work. Although the weather has turned cold again, it's not rained again, so we've made good progress. This afternoon the stucco crew showed up and started set up scaffolding and staging so they can begin work tomorrow. The new broiler was also delivered today. And these photos show the progress of the roofing crew. They worked on the play area roof and some of the main entrance roof area.
